Romans Part 10

(Romans chapter 12)

Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

Three things to understand about the instructions in Romans 12:

  1. This is written in the P____________ tense. This means that the actions described are ongoing. They are not something that is simply done once and then you are finished.
  2. This is written in the P____________ voice. This means that the actions described are not done by you, it is something that is done to you.
  3. This is written in the I_______________ mood. In Greek, anything written in the imperative mood is a command. It is not just a suggestion.

We can specifically identify characteristics that true Christians should display.

  1. Love is referring to T_________ love.
  2. This kind of love is a S______________ love.
  3. This love C_________________ be a passive uninvolved kind of love.
  4. Our hope must be J_____________ in nature.
  5. Our love and hope must be A__________________ to all.

The conduct of a Christian should never betray the S______________ of the G___________ because doing so will only provoke distain in unbelievers instead of leading them to Christ.

Take Away Lesson: True Christian worship requires us to offer ourselves as ongoing, living sacrifices to God, allow the Holy Spirit to transform our minds, and humbly serve the Body of Christ using our spiritual gifts.
